I'm with Blondie & Leolaia, but I couldn't think of a fruit that started with X, so my poor Ibex visiting Djibouti went hungry!!

Non-JWs in relationships with JWs - tough questions
by JWoods ini have noticed multiple threads here by faded jws, non-jws, dfd jws, and so on in marriages or relationships with a hard-core jw.. these are some of the most wrenching emotional situations we read about here on jwn.
for sure the jw religion has done everything they possibly can to make life miserable for the non-jw partner.. i wanted to do a thread on the subject in general without putting this on the specific personal threads - a hard, tough, question:.
is it really worth it to live a lifetime in this kind of mentally abusive relationship?.

I've bounced both of those questions around in my head many times. I did tell my JW to get out, but he wouldn't leave because "Jehovah hates a divorcing". I wanted to vomit. That was three years ago (give or take) and we have gotten to the point where we're really no more than roommates.
Here's the rub...my daughters are exposed to very little of the JW programming because daddy only talks about it when I'm not around and he knows better than to insist that they go to the KH (that's what prompted me to tell him to get out). If I divorced him, he'd have partial custody of my younger daughter (4 years old) and he'd be dragging her to the KH and out in service. So, I choose to not pursue a divorce for that simple reason. I would rather suffer a crap marriage for awhile longer than to sacrifice her to the loonies at the KH.
My JW is a lost cause and I'm living my life to the best of my ability and giving my daughters the best I can until the younger one is old enough to understand me when I say "take a comparative religion course" and old enough to read "The God Delusion". Once she's been trained to think for herself, understand that religion is tricky at best and down right horrid at worst, then I will bid my JW adieu. Until then, I am protecting her from the cult by staying with him.

'Not defiled by women in fact they are virgins' ??
by Heartofaboy in.
can anyone enlighten me what these words at rev 14:4 means?.
this scripture was read at the memorial last night to prove the anointed come from the earth but the 'not defiled by women in fact they are virgins' part was glossed over..

I'm having dejavu! I had this same conversation with my hubby the other night! Of course, he looked at me with his "I'm so righteous and you don't know the bible" look and said, "There are other verses that explain it". He would not concede to the obsurdity of taking the 144,000 literally then the "virgin" symbolically. UGH, SO FRUSTRATING!!

Odd Man Out: Living in a World of the Religiously Insane
by cameo-d ini was in a huge public building the other day and while waiting to use the phone, i had to sit across from someone who was a staff member of the business.
she had a rhinestone j-e-s-u-s pin on her collar.
it was about an inch tall.

I agree Cameo-D! In my case, I'm astonished by how many of the people I went to school with (who were not religious at all) are now Jesus-Freaks. It's scary!

Me, the WT, and the "Separating Work"...
by AGuest inmay you all have peace!.
a little while ago a dear one referred to my trip to "bethel" and discussion with carey barber.
he asked if he could read them.

Um, at the risk of getting slammed...I have to support OTWO on this one. I mean really, give the guy a break. AGuest seems very well spoken and able to take care of herself and OTWO is trying to help her (and you readers).
I am incredulous that people who have been through and gotten out of the WTBTS are still so ready to believe things like this. Didn't your experience with the WTBTS teach you that religion is man made? Can't you then reason that most "mystical" and/or "hearing voices" experiences are either caused by things in the list that OTWO posted or (get ready for it)....they're downright lies?
OK, I'll back up now and wait for the slings and arrows to start flying my way.

This week's Bible Highlights, verbatim quote: "Jehovah is a Killer..."
by Open mind init's amazing what you notice when you go through the bible again with a changed worldview.
this week's watchtower-assigned bible reading is the opening chapters of 1 samuel.
this little gem just jumped off the page at me:.

I don't mean to argue, but I think that's a bit of a stretch. AND, if you compare one scripture to the myriad scriptures that detail God's killing sprees, Satan still has less.

Snowbird,
How many scriptures tell of how many people that Satan killed? Didn't God send the she-bear to kill the children? Didn't God tell the Isrealites to kill anyone and everyone that got in their way of the pursuit of the land of milk & honey? How about the flood? From what I know of the Bible, Satan is only accused of tempting people...I don't remember him killing anyone...torture maybe, but death?

Oh the joy!! Field Service
by donny inthis is another post on one of the many jw facebooks.

i never did.. donny.

My JW looks forward to it. He spends almost all of Saturday and most of Sunday in service and with his "studies". He's even going to go to study with some guy in jail. I just don't get it. One thing, though, I have to say is that he has become a great salesman which helps him in his job. (Gotta look on the bright side...)

I told my JW the same thing. We were at my class reunion and I was talking to a friend about the last time we'd seen each other, which was at her father's funeral, so she said that she'd lost my phone number and that she'd been depressed for awhile after her father's death (naturally so), and hubby jumped right in and kept talking about depression & death. Geez.

Interesting Thought about JW's and People Outside the Org
by Mrs. Witness inon another thread, aude sapeare said:.
jws make this huge assumption that once you leave the 'protection' of the org, you will go off the deep end and become totally irresponsible, drink, smoke, do drugs and have sex with anyone and anything.. that is what i have been fighting with my husband about for 3 years now.
when he was kicked out of his jw's mom's house when he was 15, that is exactly what he did for about 20 years.
